ostblockschlampen/Eastblock Bitches Interview

Eastblock Bitches Interview: Exclusive talk with the German duo also known as Ostblockschlampen

The Eastblock Bitches are probably the most celebrated female / male “Future Trap Electro” DJ / producer duo around. Nobody knows where these two blond model like freaks are from. Some say from the outback woodland near the Sibirian Tunguska. Other say from the neighborhood of french superstar David Guetta. And some rumors say they are from the middle of Germany. But you can think what you want – when you see these both bitches catching the crowds, you will understand its not important where you from – just where you want to go and with who you want to party till the end.

Since their first release in 2010 with their “Rude Nudes EP”, the Eastblock Bitches, also known as the German equivalent Ostblockschlampen, have played most of the renowned festivals throughout Europe, such as Electric Love, Parooka Ville Festival and of course the one and only Sonne Mond & Sterne.

While their fame grew, the Ostblockschlampen were supported by the biggest DJs the industry has to offer: David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Major Lazer, just to name a few. They not only produced for Steve Aokie's label DIMMAK, but also remixed Lindemanns' (Rammstein Frontmann) single “Praise Abort”.

Fresh off their release “Apache Anthem” with  on Smash The House, Viralbpm sat down with the German Electro House / Trap / Moombahton connoisseurs to talk about their latest tracks, future goals and events, while they also share their thoughts on today's German electronic music scene. Read our exclusive Eastblock Bitches interview below:

V1. Recently you had an impressive release titled “Apache Anthem”, a collaboration with Wolfpack. Could you tell us something about the creative process of the track?

Eastblock Bitches: We've had the idea to work on a track with the famous “Apache” Sample for a long time. We also used some legendary samples on our previous releases on SPINNIN', “The Dab is Dead” and East Clintwood”, it's just so much fun! We worked on “Apache Anthem” the entire summer 2018 and tested it during the festival season, and this is how everything came together. Everytime we saw the crowd's reaction we knew it will be a big track.

V2. Was there a particular reason for dropping the single on Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's Smash The House? What makes the label so special?

Eastblock Bitches: Personally we are big fans of Dimi & Mike, they are truly some of the biggest and most inspiring artists out there. Also, their music and performances is quite similar to our own, and each performance is just pure madness. That's why we figured releasing on Smash The House would be perfect.

V3. What should your fans and listeners in general expect from you in 2019? Any song or collaboration you would like to reveal to us?

Eastblock Bitches: A lot more music in 2019, more than ever before. Our next release will be out on Laidback Luke's label Mixmash in March. There's a lot more to come, we're working on more remixes and originals but unfortunately can't say more about this yet!

V4. Any strong festival or live show we should be aware of?

Eastblock Bitches: Highlights of the summer will definitely be our performances at Parookaville, Airbeat One, Sonne Mond & Sterne and more!

V5. While being out there touring, performing and travelling across the world, what do you miss the most from home?

Eastblock Bitches: Sophie: My Dog, Markus: My PS4

V6. You have been active as djs & producers for 15+ years, how do you see the edm and house scene evolving over the years?

Eastblock Bitches: That's true. It has certainly changed over the years and became more and more mainstream as well. But that's also a good thing as more and more people become aware of the music, festivals get bigger and the scene just became a lot more relevant. We think a lot of trends come and go, also artists, but quality music and authentic performances will always be the main thing that counts, doesn't matter what kind of music exactly. Everything is a progress, also in music.

V7. Having lived in Germany myself for several years, I have to admit that the electro music scene was always pretty strong and present. Did this play some role in forging this music duo you are now and following this artistic direction in general?

Eastblock Bitches: Definitely. We've been active in music for a long time already and the German scene has shaped us and is still shaping is until today. We've both had our own careers before and at one point decided to form the Eastblock Bitches / Ostblockschlampen project.

V8. How would you describe the German music scene and fanbase in general? Any differences compared to other countries or cultures?

Eastblock Bitches: That's hard to say. In general, we have to say that we have amazing fans. The German music scene can be very diverse and in other countries trap & EDM might work better and sometimes might work worse. But we think it's all about the performance as well and if you see an Eastblock Bitches show, you will definitely love the music as well!

V9. We're really happy that we had the chance to talk to you. Any final words for our readership?

Eastblock Bitches: Make sure to check out our Instagram @ostblockschlampen and facebook.com/ostblockschlmpen to see what we're up to! We have a lot of more great music coming this year and play really amazing shows. Thanks for having us!
