How do angry men become so angry? Clean Bandit takes a look at the making of a monster in its music video for “Mama” featuring Ellie Goulding.
The catchy single plays in a minor chord to sow some subtle stress, while the visual, self-directed by the UK group, watches as one young boy grows up in fear only to become a dangerous man. Specifically, the fictional boy grows up to be President of the United States, and he looks a lot like Donald Trump.
“We wrote this script about a boy whose power was taken away from him as a child and he grew up determined to take that power back,” singer Grace Chatto says in a press release. “We directed it ourselves and we found it to be a really interesting experience.“
As Billboard mentions, the video ends with a short, emotional clip that depicts Trump and his wife dancing on a Presidential seal, but once the camera pans back all the way, it bears the message that “damaging our children can damage the entire world.”
“Mama” is on clean bandit's second studio album, What Is Love? It follows hits including “rockabye” and “Solo.” Watch the stirring video for “Mama” with Goulding below. Buy/stream the track here.
