Italians Daddy’s Groove & Bottai are bringing back Strictly Rythm classic “Free” via Armada
As soon as those lazy day guitar loops from back in the day start turning, you think you know what’s coming next. But, two decades on, Italian connection Daddy’s Groove and Bottai aren’t content with a simple recopy job telling you that you can do what you want to do. An international smash for Ultra Naté, produced by Mood II Swing on Strictly Rhythm and featuring a hand-raising chorus that was inescapable at its peak, ‘Free’ was a number one in Italy, a US dance chart #1 and peaked at #4 in the UK singles chart to be certified gold, subsequently remixed by Bob Sinclar, Junior Sanchez and Jason Nevins.
‘Free’ for 2018 comes with completely new lyrics fitted around the chorus, the sweet but resilient vocals of Dutch singer-songwriter Mingue (Spinnin Deep, disco:wax) freshening up the themes of doing what feels right. The beach ready beats come with hints of vintage Daft Punk/Junior Jack, and are sure to have the next generation singing in unison just like over twenty years ago.
Daddy’s Groove have long been living the dance music dream, rolling with David Guetta, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Nicki Minaj, and debuting in the DJ Mag Top 100 for 2016. The DG duo of Carlo Grieco and Peppe Folliero have scooped remixes for Axwell, top tier Beatport positions and global gigs to be jealous of, including performances at Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel and David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous parties in Ibiza and Miami, in addition to prime billings across London, Las Vegas, Singapore and New York.
Fellow Italian Giovanni Bottai can lay claim to mesmerising some of the world’s biggest stages, including the Ibiza twin titans of Amnesia and Ushuaia, and Miami’s Bamboo and Belgium’s Tomorrowland. His remix catalogue is hard to beat in dance and pop circles: Alesso, Otto Knows, Axwell & Ingrosso, Benny Benassi, The Bloody Beetroots, Nicole Sherzinger, Rob Thomas, Roxette, and Eiffel 65 have all been blessed by the Botta touch, as well as making an appearance on Armada with Normal Doray on ‘#BringBackTheGroove’.
