Ever since his first hit back in 2007, remixing Gregor Salto’s ‘Bouncing Harbour’, Matt has been apart of the growing house scene, delivering everything from techy electro bangers to future house bliss and providing quality music with room for experimentation and genre twisting. He’s released music on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom, Diplo’s Mad Decent, A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold, Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak and his very own Fjordin label, launched in 2010, while also doing remixes and singles on major labels such as Sony, Warner and Universal.
His latest singles all have proved very popular, scoring millions of streams, and have together with his official Mariah Carey Remix (‘You’re Mine’) helped making Matt’s tracks mainstays in the sets of some of the biggest DJ’s in the world.
Last year, Matt released several hit singles, including the future house bomb ‘Aero’ (featuring Chris Lie) on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak. 2017 starts in another direction, with the stunning deep house track ‘Phoenix’ delivering tender chords and sweet retro house vibes, perfecting Funkin Matt’s trademark sound with, as he calls it, an epic approach.
“I’ve always been inspired by retro futuristic sounds, and I wanted to create a soundscape that had that analog/’larger than life’ feel but almost in a digital way. I worked a lot with textures, both in the analog and digital domain. It had to be epic, so the chords are very cinematic and the melody is slowly progressing up and up, and when you think the bassline will go down again, it continues upwards creating a lift. The track almost came to life on its own, in a very organic way, as each small change led to another until ‘Phoenix’ emerged.” – Funkin Matt
