Emilie Brandt – Exclusive Interview With The American Vocal Powerhouse

Having convincingly carved out her own creative lane with an impressive one-of-a-kind sound, is primed to be one of the most noticeable multi-talented recording artists of her generation. Based out of Denver in Colorado, she has etched out an impressive career since breaking onto the music scene. Having already made a definitive name for herself in the electronic music sphere in late 2017 with her collaboration alongside on ‘Lost', taken from his chart-topping album Awake, the rising vocal powerhouse continued her career efforts as a solo artist. Fresh off the release of her highly-anticipated and ground-breaking debut albumFreeform, Emilie Brandt sat down with Viralbpm to discuss about the story behind it, her inspirations and next steps.

V1. First of all, we want to thank you for this interview. We are pretty sure that you're currently very happy with the final release of your album, right?

Emilie Brandt: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me today. I am so happy and filled with gratitude that the album is finally out. So much time, energy, and hard work went into the making of it and it feels really good to have completed what I set out to do.

V2. You have been heavily promoting the album with some excellent singles. Would you like tell more about the whole creative musical concept behind this LP?

Emilie Brandt: The entire album is a rollercoaster of different sounds, moods, and emotions. That is the reality of life. One can't say their whole life is defined by one singular feeling, so how can I tell my story confined to one singular genre? That is why I appropriately titled the album “Freeform”.

V3. Do you have any leftovers while working in the studio, songs that didn't make it into the final cut of the album? Was it hard for you to leave some tracks out of the final tracklist in order to keep this excellent, more compact overall tracklist?

Emilie Brandt: The album was originally going to be a short EP, but we had a few more tracks we wanted to share with the world so we ended up with nine songs. I've already started writing and recording some songs for whatever we decide to release next.

V4. Do you have any special source of inspiration?

Emilie Brandt: I write about love a LOT, relationships and hardships in my life, figuring out who I am, etc.

V5. How did you start with your career as an artist?

Emilie Brandt: I picked up an acoustic guitar for the first time when I was about 15. I specifically remember it being around the time that Taylor Swift was starting to blow up and I taught myself a few of her songs (think “I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairytale”). From there I started writing my own songs and playing in coffee shops around Milwaukee. In 2013, Nervous records did a remix of one of my acoustic songs and I think that was a really defining bridge from acoustic singer/songwriter into the world of electro – pop music that I've grown into.

V6. What should we expect from you in the future? Tour wise, but also regarding new songs or collaborations.

Emilie Brandt: We'll definitely be announcing some shows soon as well as some new collaborations. Check out my website www.emilie-brandt.com for updates! Thank you for your time Viralbpm and we hope you will keep doing your thing in the future!
