Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mark Ronson, The 1975 To Headline “We The Fest”

On the 13th and 14th August 2016, WE THE FEST opens the doors to Indonesia’s vibrant party capital, Jakarta, for a truly unparalleled immersive musical experience. A spectacular celebration of music, arts, fashion and food, boasting a lineup brimming with some of the hottest contemporary talents across the pop, rock, indie and electronic spectrum, WTF is the party to be seen at this summer and is an undisputed jewel in the crown of South East Asia’s burgeoning party calendar.

.
Headlining the festival this year, at Parkir Timur Senayan, Jakarta, are none other than Grammy award-winning pair, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who have chosen WTF as the fitting finale to their mammoth 2016 world tour. Soaring to prominence with chart-topping records including ‘Thrift Shop’ and ‘Can’t Hold Us’, Macklemore has since established himself as one of pop music’s biggest modern icons.

Fellow hit-making machine and mastermind behind the ‘Uptown Funk’ phenomenon, Mark Ronson, will also be on headline duties, bringing one of his famed genre-defying DJ sets to the backdrop of Indonesia’s most vibrant city. Last, but by no means least, alternative British rock outfit The 1975 will be taking to the coveted WTF Main Stage, as they too look to provide fans with a headline performance to savour in the memory.

The Temper Trap and Hayden James give even further depth and diversity to the already eclectic lineup, as do French ‘nu-disco’ pioneer Breakbot, Canadian synth-pop duo Purity Ring and Dutch “deep house superstar” (Billboard) Sam Feldt. Making her Indonesian debut is London-based singer-songwriter George Maple, whose collaborations with the likes of What So Not and Flume have made her an outstanding addition to this year’s event.

Australian producer Ta-ku, whose down-tempo re-imaginings of tracks from Maple, Justin Timberlake and Flume, is another must-see act on what is undoubtedly WTF’s strongest billing to date.

For the full lineup so far, head to wethefest.com and stay tuned for more acts, due to be announced soon.

Weekend tickets, starting at $54, are available now here. See below for full details, or head to wethefest.com

A labour of love since its inception two years ago, WTF has rapidly expanded from a local one-day event into a groundbreaking two-day extravaganza, welcoming attendees from every corner of the globe. A hotbed of international and homegrown musical talent, the event is also renowned for welcoming figureheads from across the cultural spectrum.

In 2015, Australia’s ‘Masterchef’ George Calombaris served up his award-winning Greek dishes to hungry punters, while magician, comedian and stunt man Wes Barker enthralled the crowds with his unique combination of stand-up comedy and magic.

This year, festival-goers will also be able to follow the latest trends from top brands and bloggers in the fashion area, absorb themselves in the art installations and graffiti around the site, brush up their skills in workshops in the artist village, or simply kick back and indulge in some of the delectable dishes that the Ismaya Food Town has to offer.

A cultural oasis in the midst of the bustling capital, whether it’s a family day out or a chance to party with friends, WTF offers up a diverse array of unrivalled immersive experiences for all ages to partake and enjoy.

Global Underground Releases Limited Edition Collectors Edition Box Set Of #GU25 – Deep Dish – Toronto

Iconic dance music label Global Underground announces that on July 1st it will be releasing an Exclusive Limited Edition “Collectors Edition” box set of the US Billboard #1 album, – GU025 Deep Dish, Toronto.

Included in the package will be a stunning 116 page hard back Toronto Travelogue Book, Limited Edition GU Postcards, GU Luggage Tag and a 24 page “Book Pack” Deluxe Version of the CD all housed in a beautiful bespoke red GU Box.

The Travelogue comes with an exclusive foreword from writer Dom Phillips and is crammed full of photographer Dean Belcher’s iconic images of Deep Dish themselves, the city of Toronto, and of course the legendary night at The Guvernment club back in December 2002 – a large amount of the photos used are exclusive to the book and have never been seen before.

The album will also be made available on Deluxe CD format and for download at all digital stores such as iTunes and Beatport.

IT’S been 16 years since Deep Dish’s Toronto mix first came out. Now re-released in this commemorative set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Global Underground, it still sounds timeless.

But Deep Dish/Toronto is more than a classic mix. It’s also a portrait of a moment in time, when Toronto’s nightlife was ruled by a 5,000-capacity, multi-roomed super-club called Guvernment – a futuristic music factory that dominated a desolate stretch of waterfront now booming with redevelopment. It also had a live venue alongside, the Kool Haus and big raves linked both venues together.

The complex became a landmark in Toronto – not just physically, but culturally as well. The Rolling Stones played there. Daft Punk and Macy Gray played there. Deadmau5 made his name there. Sasha and Digweed played there.

This collection represents one of the most consistently creative teams in electronic music at the peak of their powers. CD1’s sinuous grooves snake through liquid rhythms and occasional sultry vocals. CD2 raises the stakes with tougher beats, echoed vocals and big-room melodramatics.

But the sound is just part of it. Just as they caught the energy and life of the party, Dean Belcher’s vivid photos, full of life, light and colours, also captured the city, especially the Queens Quay port area, at a moment in time.

Deep Dish. Toronto. Stay gold.

Adding to the string of huge releases on some of house and techno’s most sought after imprints – including Elrow and Roush – Jacky has firmly cemented himself as an artist to sit up and take note of.

International Music Summit today unveil the leading figures of electronic music that will feature across the sessions and seminars of IMS College – Malta on July 1-3rd. The fourteen speakers announced encompass the industry, providing access from every angle for a 360-degree insight into the future and function of this scene. Bringing together the world’s young minds IMS College – Malta will with its partners Point Blank Music School, SAE and worldwide panels, help progress music and educate prodigies to come.

With the same renowned reputation IMS summons up for its summits in Ibiza and globally, IMS College – Malta invite down true industry icons and innovators to mentor, led by main man Pete Tong. The respected voice and champion of club-land from BBC Radio 1 speaks on DJing and Radio, from almost indefinite knowledge acquired over decades curating the sound of the scene.

Pete Tong “Education is intrinsically at the heart of all things IMS over the last nine years, so we’re delighted to announce IMS College in Malta. This is a new initiative with one aim: to inspire the next generation of artists, managers, agents, label owners and entrepreneurs. We look forward to spending one-to-one time with many industry icons and those who are wanting to make a career out of the music we love.”

Co-founder of IMS, Ben Turner likewise needs little introduction after years informing on the industry, with an intuition that he brings to his topic of Artist Management after managing Richie Hawtin and Rob Da Bank among others.

Imparting valuable advice for aspiring producers and artists, Eli & Fur speak to upcomers as newcomers themselves. Achieving acclaim from the quickly garnered support of Maceo Plex, Hot Since 2 and Pete Tong among others, this London duo know well the trials of and tips for success. Developing on Music Production as a primary area for many young creatives, Joost Stuursma discusses the hotly debated phenomenon of Ghost Production, being one of international prevalence himself. Music Engineering is given exciting focus by Chief Engineer of Red Bull Studios in Amsterdam, Frank De Jong. Working with SAE Institute also, this highly technical, inventive and vital part of the musical process will be uncovered by one of the fields top intellects.

Music Production is taken further by breakdowns in Ableton Live with two accomplished masters from Point Blank Music School. Stefano Ritteri of Dirtybird, Sound Pellegrino and Exploited Records, with credits for Depeche Mode and Underworld to only scratch the surface of his catalogue, will deliver one masterclass in the methods behind mix-perfect use of the program. Ski Oakenfull hosts one of his highly demanded deconstructions, in the past taking audiences through tours of tracks from Kraftwerk, Moderat, Caribou and Disclosure, here navigating the classic ‘Ocean Drive’ by Duke Dumont.

The world of events which give platform to the work of producers and performers is demonstrated in depth, with three in-the-know guests. The director of Hideout Festival in Croatia and Annie Mac’s flagship Lost & Found Festival in Malta, Wilf Gregory oversees something of a Mediterranean empire which enjoys a central position on the electronic circuit. Formerly the brand director and club booker of Pacha Ibiza, Danny Whittle went on to establish his own IBZ Entertainment, a service that consolidates booking and programming for artists and talent buyers around the world. These and Lucy Allen, Head of Festival & Events Press at Listen UP PR who communicates top events such as Parklife, SW4 and We Are FSTVL to international media, will lend lessons on their competitive market.

The final names speak volumes for the prominence of the business behind the scene. Label boss Mark Brown has since founding CR2 Records pioneered the independent market through major milestone releases, a list from the likes of Eric Prydz, Steve Angello and David Guetta. On the impact of Legal and Music Rights, Mark Lawrence of The Assocation For Electronic Music and Robert Horsfall of Sound Advice LLP give expert examination. Both are dedicated to fair representation as a key issue, the former from a career at PRS For Music and the latter defending the rights of Röyksopp and Knife Party to name two. Without forgetting the all-important influence of artist agents, with titan behind the talent Laura Newton of CAA who represents Róisín Murphy, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Chromeo, Little Dragon, Hercules & Love Affair.

IMS College – Malta badges and travel packages are now available to buy online.
