IT’S THE SHIP WRAPS 4th ANNUAL EDITION: 4000 PEOPLE FROM 88 COUNTRIES ONBOARD

Asia’s largest festival at sea, ‘IT’S THE SHIP’ has drawn the curtain on what was its most successful year to date, with 4,000 shipmates in attendance, energetic performances from over 80 artists on-board, as well as a host of unique side activities, that included everything imaginable, from a morning yoga session with Tigerlily to soccer with the Playboy Thailand bunnies.

Moving to the newly-made Genting Dream cruise ship, which was captained by none other than Tyson Beckford, the 2017 edition stretched across four days. With ticket sales skyrocketing, festival goers came not just from Asia, but from across 88 different countries, with Australia, USA and Germany scoring in the top ticket sales alongside the local markets of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Japan.

IT’S THE SHIP has been growing year upon year, with organisers, Livescape Group continually securing one of the most eclectic line-ups anywhere in Asia. This year’s festival was no exception, raising the bar even higher with the level of topflight talent from around the world. Headline performances from EDM power duos Krewella and Yellow Claw lit up the Crown stage on Friday and Sunday nights, with other crowd favourites like Peking Duk, DJ Craze, Third Party, and Tigerlily rocking the boat until sunrise.

Regional talent was also widely represented, with Livescape proving once again that promoting South East Asian artists to the world is high on their agenda with acts like Bangkok Invaders, Joe Flizzow, and Shigga Shay flying the flag for Thai, Malaysia and Singapore.

IT’S THE SHIP has always offered more than just the music and this year was no different, with side activities ranging from mini-golf to rope course, as well as two shows from legendary male strip troupe The Chippendales.

With a stop-off in Phuket, Thailand, crew members had the chance to party on dry land at the Kudo Beach club and partake in beer yoga before getting back on the ship for the return leg to Singapore, with over 1700 shipmates disembarking.

To cap off what was already an incredible weekend at sea, IT’S THE SHIP also saw a couple get engaged on the Saturday night, and six shipmates who have already secured their places at the 2018 IT’S THE SHIP sailing by getting their very own IT’S THE SHIP logo tattooed on them.

GRAMATIK RAISES MAXIMUM CONTRIBUTION AMOUNT OF 7,500 ETH ($2.48 MILLION) IN GRMTK TOKEN SALE

Groundbreaking producer and technological advocate, Gramatik, raised the maximum amount of $2.48 million (7500 ETH) in under 24 hours during his GRMTK token sale in Zurich last week, as he became the first artist in history to ‘tokenise’ his intellectual property.

Watch: GRMTK Token Launch Live Stream

A packed crowd at X-TRA in Zurich witnessed the historic moment as Gramatik, alongside SingularDTV, launched the GRMTK token, creating a new model for funding and artist-fan relationship. The GRMTK token represents the intellectual property of Gramatik, with those purchasing tokens entitled to a share in the revenue of his work as he produces music and scores films.

Gramatik – “GRMTK isn’t just a cryptocurrency, it’s much more than that, now my audience can share in my inspiration and success by also owning the rights and royalties of my music and anything I create and distribute on my upcoming channel. If you hold 100 GRMTK tokens, then you own 100 tokens worth of the rights and royalties of the music and projects I create”

25% of the total tokens were released in the token sale, and sold-out within 24hrs, hitting the maximum contribution amount of 7,500 ETH ($2.48 million) and putting the total value of his burgeoning GRMTK Entertainment Economy at $9 million, in a revolutionary move for artists in both the music and blockchain spheres.

Gramatik – “Embedded in the GRMTK token is not only the rights and royalties of my creations, but the ideals and philosophy of freedom and liberty for all artists, for all people.  This is a movement of not only art, but of the mind and of the spirit.”

Now that the world has seen the fundraising potential of artist tokenization, Gramatik is confident that the world-beating stars and luminaries of the music world will have their interest piqued. “Even the big names with massive worldwide fan bases like Skrillex have an interest in creating without intermediaries, getting rid of major labels when they’re not helping,” says Gramatik. “They just need to see actual progress, that it’s not just a theory. When they see that, I won’t even need to convince them. They’ll see for themselves. Then I can see widespread adoption.”
